Check on Your People

Some conversations stay on the list so long that the list begins to feel like the conversation. You mean to call. You think about asking how the new job is going. Another week passes. A short, direct check-in can be more useful than waiting for a free evening that never arrives. Ask one question you are prepared to listen to the answer to.
A Small Way to Begin
Choose one person and reach out in a way that suits them.
Make the question specific enough to invite a real answer.
If you offer help, say what you can actually do and when.
Make It Part of the Day
A message does not need to be polished. It needs to arrive. Give someone room to answer at their pace, and follow through if the conversation reveals a practical need. Looking after your people is often made of ordinary contact, repeated often enough that nobody has to wonder whether they matter.
