Stories from the Forge
Clear a Small Space

A crowded surface can become a map of unfinished decisions. Mail, keys, shopping bags, and the object somebody set down just for a minute all begin to look permanent. Clearing one small area can make an ordinary evening easier without becoming a full-house project. Choose a space you use every day. Give it a purpose you can describe in one sentence.
A Small Way to Begin
Move everything off that one surface before deciding what belongs there.
Return only the items needed for its daily purpose.
Give the displaced things a next action instead of moving the pile to another chair.
Make It Part of the Day
A clear corner is useful when it helps something happen: preparing dinner, leaving on time, or sitting down to write. It does not need to stay untouched. A household is lived in. The goal is an easier next step, not winning a contest against the existence of objects.
