Stories from the Forge
The Saturday Without an Itinerary

A free Saturday can disappear under a surprisingly ambitious plan. The orchard, the market, the yard, the errands, and something called a quick stop all compete for the same afternoon. Before you fill the day, leave one part of it unnamed. A little unplanned time gives everyone a chance to notice what they actually want.
A Small Way to Begin
Choose one fixed commitment and allow space on either side of it.
Ask the people with you what would make the afternoon worthwhile before suggesting an itinerary.
Have a simple fallback at home so a change of plan does not feel like a failure.
Make It Part of the Day
A good day can be a walk, a meal, a conversation, or an hour spent doing very little together. Make room for the possibility that the best part will not be the part you booked. October does not issue attendance certificates.
