Stories from the Forge
Leave the Work a Little Better

The last few minutes of a job often decide how the next job begins. A tool wiped down, a note left where it belongs, or a rough edge checked once more makes work easier for the next person. None of those gestures is dramatic. They are part of doing a thing with care when the applause has already moved on.
A Small Way to Begin
Before calling a job finished, look at it from the next person’s position.
Put the tools and information back where someone will expect them.
Write down one unresolved detail instead of leaving someone else to discover it.
Make It Part of the Day
Craft is visible in the object, but it is also visible in the handoff. Leave something useful behind: a clean surface, an honest note, a repaired part. You do not need to improve everything. Make one piece of the work easier to trust.
